Friends of the Peak District's DIAMOND DAWDLE
Saturday 16 April
Join us on this fantastic charity walk to celebrate the 80th birthday of the UK's very first national park!
Starting at Thornbridge Hall, there's a choice of two circular routes along the beautiful Monsal Trail:
- the more challenging 15 miles (kicking off at 8.30am)
- the more leisurely 7.5 miles (kicking off at 11.30am)
Both walks return you to Thornbridge Hall where you can rest your weary feet, enjoy a nice piece of cake and help celebrate 60 years since the Peak District gained its national park status. This will be a great event so please join us.

Extracts from report to CPRE's East Midlands Regional Group meeting
Defra is consulting the National Park authorities about possible changes to their governance arrangements. We have fed into the Peak District NPA's internal review, to inform their response to Defra. We suggest that the number of authority members should reduce, but that the balance between local authority, parish and Secretary of State appointees should remain the same. We do not support direct elections to the Peak Park authority, but we do feel that more effort should be put into community engagement and public consultation.
Peak Park Budget
We have been following closely the authority's deliberations about their budget reductions. The main area of public concern has been the future of Losehill Hall and the environmental education service based there. The PDNPA has now agreed in principle to form a partnership with the Youth Hostel Association, who will take over the running of the hall. Details have yet to be finalised.
‘Take Back the Tracks'
Our campaigning work against illegal off-roading has been popular and successful. We are particularly pleased that Derbyshire County Council and the Peak District National Park Authority are both now consulting on the imposition of Traffic Control Orders on some of the routes where the most disruption and environmental damage is taking place.
60th Anniversary Walks
We are organising two fundraising walks on 16th April this year, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Peak Park. Starting from Thornbridge Hall, there is a choice of two circular walks via Monsal Trail, either 15 miles or 7.5 miles. There will be a birthday party, with cake, at Thornbridge Hall at the end of the walks. The cost is £13.50 for adults and £6 for children - all proceeds to Friends of the Peak District.
