CPRE Rutland engages local schools
The branch is supportiing a local community respect shield for some of the primary schools in the county. Those taking part must submit portfolios of work demonstrating what they have done to help their local community, and the award to the best school will be handed out later this year.
CPRE Rutland decided to join forces with Oakham Town Council to promote this local project, seeing it as an ideal way to promote the CPRE message to a wider audience as well as encouraging children to take action in their local area on issues such as litter.
The branch has provided funding to help in the running of the scheme, and action packs have now been sent to schools, with plenty ofinformation about the shield and about CPRE Rutland.
The project has already had a good amount of press coverage.
The branch is also trying to encourage the council to regenerate part of the local canal, as part of Oakham in Bloom. It has been neglected over the years and litter needs clearing and the canal area revitalising. It would be perfect as a wildlife area and could include a section for local children to go 'pond dipping'.
