Eco-towns
In 2007 the Government announced that ten eco-towns, containing between 5,000 - 20,000 homes, each would be built in each region. Developments were designed to be zero carbon, contain a range of facilities, including schools, shops and leisure facilities and be an exemplar in at least one environmental technology. Developers were asked to submit proposals for schemes.
Originally there were a number of proposals for the East Midlands including:
- Pennbury, south east of Leicester (Coop Estates)
- Newton, south of Nottingham (RAF Newtown, English Partnerships)
- Cotgrave, south of Nottingham (Crown Golf)
- Manby and Strubby,Lincolnshire
