A village transport plan

Liftsharing in action

CPRE has created a step-by-step guide to creating a sustainable transport plan for your village.

Cecilia Bromley-Martin from an organisation called Liftshare
spotted our guide and got in touch:

I found this very interesting, but can I suggest you update it to include car-sharing in Section 4?

There are various schemes in existence that are completely free for users to join, so it wouldn't add a penny to the cost of creating sustainable transport for a village. Most counties have their own public scheme, and liftshare.com is nationwide and has been joined by over 340,000 individuals already.

Car-sharing is great for accessibility as you don't have to have your own car to do it. People in rural areas in particular, which don't have ideal bus connections, really benefit from being able to find someone else living nearby who is going the same way.

You might also want to include BikeBUDi.com, WalkBUDi.com and TaxiBUDi.com - all free-to-use sites which allow people to search for others wanting to cycle / walk / share a taxi, so they can do it together. A lot of people are open to walking and cycling instead of driving, but don't want to do it alone - especially in the darker months.

Anyway, just wanted to bring these to your attention as very valuable additions to be included in a package of options.

Best wishes,

Cecilia
